Exceptional Care, Close to Home

Photo: Recently, Judith Forget returned to the Montplaisir Unit at Sturdy Memorial Hospital to thank the nurses as well as the nutritionist who helped her select delicious meals during her hospital stay. Judith is a long-term resident of Attleboro and has relied on care for her and her family over the years. Like many families, Judith returned to Sturdy over the years whenever healthcare needs arose – including with her late husband’s cancer and then her own. Recently, Judith was experiencing light-headedness and heart palpitations, so she headed to the Emergency Department and was quickly evaluated and admitted to an inpatient unit for monitoring and testing. Judith’s recent stay reaffirmed for her that “you don’t have to travel far to get excellent care.”
For Attleboro resident Judith Forget, Sturdy Health has long been more than a hospital. It has been a constant presence through life’s most challenging moments, offering care, reassurance, and compassion when it mattered most.
Judith and her late husband, Don, built their lives and their business in Attleboro. Over the years, Sturdy Health became an anchor for them. When Don was diagnosed with cancer, he spent a great deal of time at Sturdy for treatment, with Judith by his side. She watched as clinicians cared for him with patience, gentleness, and respect, day after day.
Not long after Don’s passing, Judith faced her own cancer diagnosis. She returned to the same health system and many of the same caregivers who had supported them both during such a difficult time. Their familiarity and compassion made a profound difference as she moved through treatment and into remission. At the time, Judith was deeply grateful for the steady support she received throughout her care.
More recently, Sturdy Health once again played a critical role in Judith’s life. After experiencing lightheadedness and heart palpitations, she went to the Emergency Department, where she was quickly evaluated and admitted to an inpatient unit for monitoring and testing.
“The process was smooth and reassuring, and the nurses were constantly checking on me,” she said. “They made sure I was safe and understood everything that was happening. They explained things so clearly.”
Throughout her stay, Judith felt that her comfort and time were truly valued. She was scheduled for two separate tests, and when she was taken for the first, a member of the care team asked if she would be willing to stay a little longer so both could be completed in one trip. Within an hour, everything was finished. There was no waiting, no repeat transport, and no added stress.
It was the small moments that stood out most. The nurses took time to talk with her, and the days passed quickly. “They were so knowledgeable, but also funny and showed so much kindness,” Judith shared. “They were really enjoyable to talk to. I didn’t mind being there!”
Even meals were thoughtfully personalized. A dietitian spent time with Judith, helping her create a meal plan that fit her routine and appetite. Although she does not typically eat three full meals a day, the tailored approach made all the difference, and she found herself enjoying everything that arrived.
For Judith, the experience reinforced a belief shaped by decades of care at Sturdy Health.
“You don’t have to travel far to get excellent care,” she said. “To have a place like this right here is a tremendous asset.”
