Seamless Patient Experience and Integrated Care Delivery Take Center Stage

ATTLEBORO, MA (September 17, 2025) - Sturdy Health held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the official opening of its new Cancer and Specialty Care Building. The 60,000-square-foot, three-story facility represents a major step forward in Sturdy Health’s ability to bring advanced specialty services and cancer care closer to home for patients in Southeastern Massachusetts and neighboring Rhode Island.

State and local officials, community leaders and members of the Sturdy Health team gathered to recognize the opening of this state-of-the-art building.  The new facility centralizes select specialty services, including cancer treatment, hematology, cardiology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, and surgery.  Sturdy Health is creating a more seamless patient experience with greater opportunities for providers to collaborate, resulting in more integrated care delivery.

“This milestone represents so much more than a new building—it’s a step forward in our commitment to delivering exceptional, community-based health care,” said Aimee Brewer, President and CEO of Sturdy Health.  “Every square foot of this facility was thoughtfully designed with our patients in mind — to bring advanced care closer to home, to support collaboration among our expert providers, and to meet the growing needs of our community.  We are proud to open the doors to a space that reflects the future of health care at Sturdy.”

With 50 exam rooms and an expanded clinical staff, the facility will allow Sturdy Health to increase patient access and shorten appointment wait times for specialty care.  The building also features a climate-controlled connector bridge to Sturdy Memorial Hospital to better link hospital-based and outpatient services.  Designed with patient comfort in mind, the new spaces emphasize efficient circulation, clear navigation, and a warm and welcoming environment.

The building was designed by global architecture firm NBBJ and built by Consigli Construction Co., Inc.  Redgate served as the owner’s representative.

“This state-of-the-art facility will enhance Sturdy’s renowned personalized care by offering a uniform, yet flexible clinic arrangement and patient- and family-focused waiting areas filled with natural light and comfortable seating,” said Kwang Lee, Healthcare Director, NBBJ.  “Designed to foster collaboration among care providers, the building features a central caregiver space surrounded by exam rooms, encouraging communication between nurses and doctors.  This layout also separates patient and caregiver circulation, ensuring seamless and efficient operations.  This facility will be a significant addition to the Sturdy main campus and the surrounding neighborhood, enhancing the quality of health care available.”

“Sturdy Health’s commitment to expanding access to high-quality, local health care is critically important, and Consigli is grateful to serve as a trusted partner in this meaningful work,” said Stephanie O’Brien, Director & Project Executive – Healthcare at Consigli Construction Co., Inc.  “Delivered on an active, occupied hospital campus, this new Cancer and Specialty Care Building brings state-of-the-art resources and services together in one centralized location, supporting both patients and providers throughout their healing and care journeys.”

“The opening of Sturdy Health’s new Cancer and Specialty Care Building exemplifies Sturdy’s commitment to serving communities across Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island,” said Jennifer Sutherby, Vice President at Redgate.  “The 60,000-square-foot facility provides patients with comprehensive, patient-centered care in a space thoughtfully designed for comfort and convenience.  Redgate is proud to partner with Sturdy Health to bring this vision to life and expand access to high-quality health care throughout the region and celebrate the realization of this project.”

The new facility opens with Sturdy Health’s oncology services in place.  In 2026, oncology care will be further strengthened with the addition of a Dana-Farber Cancer Institute cancer care center.  This partnership will build on the quality care that Sturdy Health’s oncology team has long provided while giving patients convenient access to Dana-Farber’s expertise, clinical trials, and supportive oncology resources.

The Cancer and Specialty Care Building is part of Sturdy Health’s broader plan to modernize its campus and transform care delivery, which also includes the expansion of its Emergency Department that broke ground last month.
