How do you approach care?
Prior to my career as a physician, I practiced as a Master's level social worker, where the biopsychosocial model was a core component of my work. I continue to utilize this model in my daily practice as a physician. The medical, psychological, and social elements of a patient's life all need to be addressed when working together to optimize health. The part of medicine I enjoy most is in forming therapeutic relationships with individuals and collaborating to achieve health and wellness.
What inspired you to pursue a career in healthcare and your specialty?
I started my career as a clinical social worker. I found myself working closely with medical staff and after several years, I decided that medicine would be a better fit for me. I gravitated toward internal medicine early on. Sometimes coming up with a medical diagnosis is like solving a mystery, requiring that the right questions be asked, that the answers are truly heard, and that the information is processed to come up with the right diagnosis and treatment. I enjoy helping figure out what patient’s health goals are and working together to meet those goals. I find working with patients and families over time to be extremely rewarding.
Why did you choose to join Sturdy Health?
I was attracted to Sturdy Health after I realized how many high caliber physicians that I knew from my training had already landed here. I was working in another healthcare system but found that I was making more and more referrals to specialists working at Sturdy Health due to their high level of expertise and patient-centered care. Additionally, I have been impressed by how friendly people have been since the very first contacts I had here.
What are your personal interests?
I enjoy running, spending time with family, hiking, baseball, and hanging out with our dog.
