There are countless reasons to give to Sturdy. Each year, tens of thousands of people from Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island trust our Sturdy Health team with what matters most — their health and the health of those they love. Since 1913, Sturdy has remained steadfast in its mission and committed to meeting our community’s healthcare needs. We are proud to continue this legacy by providing the care, services, and support our community needs today.
The generous support of donors like you strengthens our ability to fulfill our mission by providing much-needed resources to invest in new technology, renovate and expand our facilities, care for patients with complex or unique needs, and offer our region an array of health-focused classes, events and support groups.
Reasons To Give
While our Sturdy Health team is as strong as ever, we continue to face significant financial challenges, including declining reimbursement rates and lasting increases in labor and supply costs.
These pressures have affected nonprofit health systems across the country, including Sturdy Health, reporting negative operating margins.
We have a clear plan for strengthening Sturdy Health and ensuring out long-term financial sustainability. In 2022, we began implementing its first-ever enterprise strategic plan. This milestone following nearly a year of discussions, planning, and a comprehensive assessment by third-party experts with extensive experience helping health systems navigate an increasingly challenging and competitive health care environment. Â Our Strategic Plan includes a detailed financial recovery and sustainability plan, which we are actively advancing.
Our roots are in Attleboro and the surrounding region, and our future is here, too. Our strategic plan includes significant investments that will help us grow our medical staff, expand the services we offer close to home, and transform our facilities, footprint, and brand to better reflect who we are today and where we’re headed.
These investments include the construction of a new, state-of-the-art new Medical Office Building that will transform the experience we provide to our patients and the look and feel of our hospital campus. This is just the beginning of a decade-long transformation of Sturdy Health.
We began this transformation by updating our name to Sturdy Health, reflecting our growth and evolution from a single hospital into a full-service health system.

There are many different ways to make a planned or structured gift to Sturdy Health, including bequests through our Legacy Society, gifts of insurance policies or appreciated securities or the transfer of assets and gift matching. If you are considering this type of gift, we are honored to be part of your plans. Real estate may be donated to Sturdy Health during your lifetime or through a bequest. Another option is a life estate agreement, which allows you to transfer ownership of your home to Sturdy Health while retaining the right to live in and use the property for the rest of your life. You remain responsible for the property’s upkeep during your lifetime.
By donating a life insurance policy to the Sturdy Health Foundation, you may be eligible for a charitable tax deduction based on the policy’s value at the time of the gift. If you continue making premiums, those payments may also be tax deductible.
Giving appreciated securities to the Foundation allows you to deduct the full fair market value of the stock as a charitable contribution, while bypassing all capital gains taxes.
Many companies match charitable donations made by their employees to the Sturdy Health Foundation through corporate giving programs. If your employer offers a matching gift program, your human resources department can provide the appropriate form and instructions for submitting it with your donation.

Donor Advised Funds
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a philanthropic savings account with the flexibility to recommend when and how much you would like to donate to eligible organizations, including the Sturdy Health Foundation.
The DAF sponsor handles all disbursements and records and there are no transaction fees.
