Quality & Safety

Each day at Sturdy Health, we are committed to providing the highest quality patient-centered care. We work to proactively identify areas for improvement and review processes and procedures to align with best practices.

Under the direction of the Quality Team, Sturdy Health aims to:

  • Advance a culture of safety through high-reliability principles;
  • Ensure high-quality healthcare standards are met; and
  • Promote well-being among our team members, patients, and the community.

Sturdy Health's Journey to Becoming a High-Reliability Organization

On our journey to become a High-Reliability Organization, our goal is to have ZERO events of preventable harm to patients or staff.

Sturdy Health is committed to patient-centered care, including:

  • Preoccupation with Failure (Transparency): Actively looking for and being aware of what can go wrong
  • Sensitivity to Operations (Continuous Learning): Open information about what is happening on the front line
  • Reluctance to Simplify (Improvement Model): Encouraging questioning attitudes and seeing clarification when unsure
  • Commitment to Resilience (Accountability): Detect, contain, learn, and bounce back from errors
  • Deference to Expertise (Communication): Decision-making during high-stress, high-volume activity goes to the person with the most experience rather than the person with the most senior title

We measure ourselves against local and national standards via Press Ganey, Leapfrog, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). These organizations provide data-driven reports on healthcare systems across the country. These grading systems are intended to help healthcare consumers choose high-quality providers for their medical needs.

We provide information about our performance to help our patients and members of the community we serve make educated healthcare decisions.

To ensure the highest quality of care, Sturdy Health maintains safe ICU nurse-to-patient ratios, adhering to best practices and regulatory standards. Learn more about our ICU staffing approach on ICU Nurse-to-Patient Ratios.

Patient Safety

Patient safety involves reducing the risk of harm. At Sturdy Health, we take steps to avoid accidents, errors, injuries, and infections. Through our adverse events initiative, a committee of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and support staff analyze clinical processes and identify opportunities for errors to reach patients. From this information, we design and implement fail safes to prevent errors from reaching patients.
