What to Expect While You’re Here
Our goal is to restore your health and well-being. We will do everything we can to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. A highly qualified team of physicians, nurses, and support staff provides compassionate care around the clock, working together to support your recovery. We consider our patients to be the most important members of the care team, and we encourage you to ask questions and share any concerns. We are proud to offer advanced technology and experienced healthcare professionals, but we also believe that compassionate, personal care makes a meaningful difference. At Sturdy Memorial Hospital, kindness and respect are at the heart of everything we do. Thank you for choosing Sturdy Memorial Hospital. We wish you a comfortable stay and a smooth recovery.
All patient rooms are equipped with flat-screen televisions; service is provided free of charge. Please be considerate of other patients by playing TVs softly and by turning off your TV at bedtime. If you would like to watch TV at night, please ask for headphones.
Although your first day may be busy, we will make time to answer your questions and help you get settled. Your nurse can familiarize you with your room and explain the hospital routine. Patient rooms are cleaned daily, sometimes while you are away from your room. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we change bed linens upon request or as needed.
We recommend bringing only essential items to the hospital. Please leave valuables at home whenever possible or ask a family member or friend to take them with them. If you arrive unexpectedly with valuables, ask your nurse for a Valuables Bag. Your belongings will be sealed and safeguarded by our Security team throughout your hospital stay.
Small battery-operated personal items such as razors, toothbrushes, radios, or hair dryers may be used, but electrical appliances are not permitted. Please keep track of personal items, including eyeglasses, dentures, and hearing aids, as the hospital cannot be responsible for lost or misplaced belongings. If you notice something is missing, please notify your nurse right away.
We know that good food is an important part of your hospital stay. Our Nutrition Services team is committed to providing excellent service and nutritious, satisfying meals, freshly prepared on site using high-quality ingredients. You’ll find a variety of menu options, including creative selections for patients with special dietary needs.
A nutrition assistant will visit you to review your menu choices and explain the diet your physician has ordered. They’ll ask about your food preferences and enter your selections into our computerized nutrition program. You may also meet with a registered dietitian during your stay.
If your physician has prescribed a special diet, some meals may be different from what you’re used to at home. For your safety, please check with your nurse before eating any food brought from home or given to you by visitors.
Only those medications approved by a patient’s attending physician are permitted. All other medications should be given to your nurse as you unpack.
Please let your family and friends know they can reach you between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. by calling (508) 236-8555 or until 9 p.m. by dialing your room directly – 508-236 plus your bed’s extension number. Cell phones should be turned off when you are in the hospital’s clinical areas.
Your hospital care team is made up of nurses, certified nurse assistants, case managers, dietitians, pharmacists, physical therapists, rehabilitation therapists, and your physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant, known as a “hospitalist.”
The hospitalists manage all aspects of each patient’s care in the hospital, such as ordering tests, prescribing medications, monitoring results and progress, and readying patients for discharge. Hospitalists are the leaders of your hospital care team and see their patients at least once a day.
Laborists are specialized OB/GYNs who work exclusively in the hospital to assist women in labor and delivery and provide support during obstetric emergencies.
