Know the Signs: Protecting Yourself This Respiratory Illness Season

Every year, flu and other respiratory illnesses circulate through our communities, making it important to recognize the symptoms early and take steps to protect yourself and those around you. Early detection not only helps reduce the spread, but also ensures timely treatment, especially for seniors, children, and those with chronic health conditions who may be at higher risk.

Typical flu symptoms often appear suddenly and may include fever, body aches, chills, sore throat, and fatigue. Other respiratory illnesses can share similar signs such as cough, congestion, or shortness of breath, and in some cases, symptoms may worsen or linger. Being attentive to how you and your family are feeling is key to keeping everyone safe.

If you or a loved one develops these symptoms, it’s best to stay home, limit contact with others, and contact your healthcare provider for guidance on next steps.

The good news is that prevention is possible. Vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to reduce your risk of serious illness and keep our community healthier during peak respiratory illness season. Sturdy Health is offering convenient vaccination clinics this fall, open to patients and community members of all ages.

By choosing to get vaccinated, you’re protecting yourself and helping safeguard your family, friends, and neighbors. Together, we can reduce the impact of respiratory illnesses across Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Take action this season. Visit one of our upcoming vaccine clinics and help us keep our community strong and healthy.
