Protecting Every Patient, Every Day

Our Commitment to Your Safety

Patient safety involves reducing the risk of harm. At Sturdy Health, patient safety guides everything we do, including our focus on creating a safe, clean, and healing environment for our patients, visitors, and staff.  From preventing infections and maintaining rigorous cleaning standards to continuously improving the quality of care we provide, we take a proactive approach to safety every day.

Our physicians, nurses, clinicians, environmental services professionals, and support teams work together to identify risks, follow evidence-based practices, and continuously improve each patient’s care experience.

Preventing Infections

Our specialists work closely across the health system to implement best practices, educate team members, patients and visitors, and respond quickly when concerns arise. Together, we follow proven strategies to reduce the risk of infection before, during, and after treatment. Depending on your condition or treatment, you may see caregivers wearing gloves, gowns, masks, or other protective equipment. In some cases, additional precautions may be required, and signs outside patient rooms will explain any special instructions for visitors.

One of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent the spread of infection is proper hand hygiene. Our caregivers clean their hands before and after every patient interaction, and we encourage patients and visitors to do the same. If you don’t see someone clean their hands before providing care, it’s OK to remind them — we welcome your partnership in keeping everyone safe.

Maintaining a Clean, Safe Environment

A clean environment supports healing and helps reduce the spread of germs. Our environmental services team follows rigorous cleaning and disinfection protocols throughout our hospital, medical offices, waiting areas, patient rooms, and common spaces. We use hospital-grade disinfectants and follow established standards for cleaning equipment and high-touch surfaces.

Delivering Safe, High-Quality Care

Patient safety extends beyond cleanliness. Sturdy Health uses nationally recognized safety practices to help prevent medical errors, improve communication among care teams, and ensure patients receive the right care at the right time. We continually review our processes, learn from every experience, and make improvements that strengthen the quality and safety of care.

Safety Starts with Our Team

Creating a culture of safety means every team member has a voice. We encourage staff to speak up about potential concerns, report safety issues, and work together to solve problems before they affect patients. By fostering teamwork, accountability, and continuous learning, we create a safer environment for everyone who walks through our doors.

Working Together to Keep You Safe

Patients and families also play an important role in safe care. We encourage you to ask questions, share concerns, and partner with your care team throughout your healthcare journey. Together, we can help ensure the safest possible experience.

Preventing Falls

Falls can happen to patients of any age, especially during illness or recovery. Our team assesses each patient’s risk for falling and takes steps to help prevent injuries.

You can help by:

  • Calling for assistance before getting out of bed if you feel weak or unsteady.
  • Keeping your call button and personal items within easy reach.
  • Wearing non-skid footwear whenever you are walking.
  • Using your glasses, hearing aids, walker, cane, or other assistive devices.
  • Following your care team’s instructions for getting out of bed and moving safely.

Staying Safe After You Return Home

Even after you’re discharged, you may still be at increased risk for falls while you recover.

To make your home safer:

  • Remove clutter, loose rugs, and electrical cords from walkways.
  • With stairs, make sure handrails are securely fastened and not broken.
  • Improve lighting, especially at night.
  • Keep frequently used items within easy reach, about waist high.
  • Wear non-skid shoes or slippers.
  • Follow your discharge instructions, including any walking or strengthening exercises.
  • Stand up slowly after sitting or lying down.Â
