Breastfeeding Support
Congratulations on your new baby! If you choose to breastfeed, our team is here to support you and help you get off to a confident start.Â
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends breast milk as the best food for your baby. The AAP also states that breast milk is all your baby needs for the first six months of life, although you may breastfeed for as long as both you and your child desire. We support your breastfeeding decision and are trained to get you off to a great start.Â
Classes and Support
We offer a variety of breastfeeding classes and support to help you feel prepared and confident throughout your breastfeeding journey. Our 2.5-hour breastfeeding class covers topics including positioning and latch, feeding patterns, building and maintaining milk supply, your first days of breastfeeding, skin-to-skin contact, the first feeding, your baby’s golden hour, and newborn feeding cues.Â
In addition to breastfeeding classes, we offer a variety of classes and support groups, as well as outpatient services provided by our certified lactation consultants.Â
In the Hospital
To help you get breastfeeding off to a good start, we encourage immediate and continuous skin-to-skin contact with your baby and suggest beginning breastfeeding as soon as possible after birth, when medically appropriate.Â
As a Baby-Friendly-designated hospital, we support early bonding between parents and their newborns. Our rooming-in approach allows your baby to stay with you in your room throughout your hospital stay. Keeping your baby nearby can help you recognize feeding cues, provide opportunities for feeding on demand, and support milk production.Â
Our board-certified lactation consultants will visit you during your hospital stay to provide personalized breastfeeding guidance and support. Our nurses can also help you with breastfeeding, so please ask for assistance whenever you need it.Â
