Sturdy Health is TeamBirth Recognized

Sturdy Health uses a TeamBirth approach to tailor each birth experience to a mother’s unique preferences. This collaborative model brings together the birthing parent, their support person, and the care team to promote open communication, shared decision-making, and a supportive environment where every patient feels heard and empowered.

Sturdy Health is "Birthing Friendly"

"Birthing-Friendly" is the first-ever CMS designation to describe high-quality maternity care. To earn the designation, hospitals and health systems report their progress on CMS's Maternal Morbidity Structural Measure to the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) Program. The measure identifies whether a hospital or health system has participated in a statewide or national perinatal quality improvement collaborative program and implemented evidence-based quality interventions in hospital settings to improve maternal health.

Sturdy Memorial Hospital Earns Prestigious Baby-Friendly Designation

The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative recognizes hospitals that meet the highest standards in supporting breastfeeding and maternal-infant bonding. To receive this designation, Sturdy Memorial met the comprehensive criteria of the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, a set of evidence-based practices proven to improve newborn health outcomes.

Our experienced obstetrician/gynecologists at Sturdy Health OB/GYN & Women’s Health provide comprehensive care throughout your pregnancy journey, from pre-pregnancy planning and conception through prenatal care and delivery.

Your birth experience at Sturdy Memorial Hospital is unique to you. Maternity Unit Virtual Tour

While we would love to show you all of the amenities on our Weber Maternity Unit in person, we understand that it’s not always an option. To give you an idea of the space where you would deliver your baby, we’ve developed a photo virtual tour.

A Space Designed for Your Birth

Labor & Delivery

Weber Maternity is a comfortable, welcoming unit with 15 private suites designed to give you and your support person or doula space and privacy throughout your stay. You can remain in one room throughout your stay—move around during labor, enjoy uninterrupted skin-to-skin contact after birth, and recover in the same room.

Your OB/GYN provider may recommend an induction of labor on or before your due date when it is in the interest of your health or your baby’s health and safety. Labor induction may involve medication, a cervical ripening tool, or both to help start contractions and prepare the cervix for labor. If your provider schedules an induction, follow their instructions and those provided by the Sturdy Health team about when to arrive at the hospital. For more information about an induction, click here.

If your baby is born by cesarean birth, you can still experience skin-to-skin contact as soon as your newborn has been assessed by the neonatal nurse specialist. Your baby may even be ready to breastfeed in the operating room.

If you would like to see your baby’s first moments, our surgical drape includes a clear window that allows you to watch the delivery. Your support person can remain by your side throughout the cesarean birth.

Registration

As your delivery date approaches, you’ll be contacted by the Weber Maternity Unit Coordinator to register. You’ll need your insurance information available. If you go into labor before pre-registering, we’ll assist you upon arrival.

Where to Go

If you believe you are in active labor between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., enter through the hospital’s main entrance. After 8 p.m., please use the Emergency Department entrance.

When you arrive at the unit, our team will evaluate you in our triage area to determine whether you are in active labor. Once active labor is confirmed, you will be brought to your private suite for labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum (LDRP), where a dedicated nurse will provide one-on-one support throughout your labor and delivery.

Amenities

During labor, you can choose from a variety of comfort measures to help you feel supported and comfortable, including aromatherapy, music therapy, massage, birthing balls, walking, and use of our hydrotherapy tub.

Having a support person or doula with you during labor and delivery can provide comfort and encouragement. We welcome up to two support people to remain in the room with you throughout your labor and delivery.

Skin-to-Skin Contact

Immediately after birth, when medically appropriate, our nurses will place your newborn directly on your bare chest to encourage bonding during the first hour and beyond. We delay routine clinical interventions when possible while continuing to monitor your health and your baby’s health throughout this important time.

Skin-to-skin contact can also help your baby begin breastfeeding during the first hour of life, when newborns are often alert and ready to feed. Early breastfeeding can support breastfeeding success.

For Family & Visitors

We want you and your loved ones to feel welcome while keeping a safe, comfortable environment for patients, newborns, families, and our care team. We recognize the important role loved ones play during this special time and welcome visitors while taking steps to protect everyone’s health and well-being.

To support rest, recovery, and healing, quiet hours are observed on the unit. We soften the lighting, turn on soothing music, reduce noise, and encourage maternal bonding and relaxation.

Visiting hours for the Weber Maternity Unit are 4–8 p.m. Siblings of the newborn are the only children who may visit. Visitors under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
